Rural Ambassador
The Rural Ambassador Award is a National Competition aimed at young adults who have a passion for living and working in rural communities and a willingness to promote what they are about.
The purpose of the competition is to uncover the next generation of rural leaders who have the desire to represent and promote their community, their region and their state. The WA Rural Ambassador will represent RASWA at selected events with an agricultural and education focus, and compete in the national Rural Ambassador competition. To be eligible to enter, candidates just need to have the desire to stand up for Rural Australia, have a basic agricultural and rural knowledge, and be prepared to ‘have a go’. They will experience some tough competition, make lifelong friends and have a damn good time.
This year 2026, we are proud to announce that Tegan Strobl has been chosen to represent the Waroona Agricultural Society as our Rural Ambassador and our candidate for the Rural Ambassador competition. Tegan will contest the Southwest Zone section in August for a chance to represent Waroona and the Southwest Zone at the State competition in September during the Royal Show.
Tegan has been coming to the Waroona Show since she was 6 months old and has never missed a show. She started exhibiting in the cooking and crafts sections as a young child and then when she was 12, she began her volunteer journey in the Children’s Hall alongside her mum and sister. Her enthusiasm and love of the show has continued and she has now taken on the role of Deputy Children’s Hall Steward. Tegan believes that volunteering is a great way to meet new people, be involved in the community in which she lives while experiencing the reward of being involved in a big event.
Tegan is currently studying for a Bachelor of Environmental Science, a Bachelor of Geographical Science and a Cert. III in Horticulture and hopes to one day work in conservation or horticulture to increase her knowledge of ecosystems and land management. Tegan believes that Agricultural Shows have a role to play in bridging the gap between food production and consumption, helping more people learn about agriculture and rural life. She also has a passion for gardening and has recently taken up beekeeping, which has brought her lots of learning opportunities and a few bee stings along the way.
As rural ambassador, she hopes to encourage all people, to be involved at their local agricultural shows, while promoting sustainable farming and environmental stewardship. We are very proud to have Tegan represent the Society and the Waroona Show and we wish her well on the next phase of her journey.
